In consultation with a working party composed of various stakeholders in Health and CALD communities across various state and Local Health Districts (LHD), MHCS has chosen the theme “Healthy Kids” for Multicultural Health Week 2012 which will be held from 3rd to 10th September 2012.

This year’s theme Healthy Kids reinforces the importance of a good start for children from multicultural backgrounds with the four key messages as preventative measures to reduce childhood obesity:

  • Washing hands
  • Choosing more fruit and vegetables
  • Drinking water
  • Being active

The “Healthy Kids” theme is to focus on the health of children from multicultural backgrounds, children from immigrant and refugee families, and children from families of minority languages and lifestyle factors.

The resources launched for Multicultural Health Week this year are:

  • An A4 Brochure/Poster featuring web links to multilingual resources for children
  • An A6 size flipchart promoting the key messages in colourful images and simple English
  • A small bag for children
  • Print, Radio and Television advertisements in Chinese and Arabic
  • Two new translations for Munch and Move resources in Nepalese and Tamil languages

A wide variety of events are being organised across the state for children to celebrate the health of younger children. These events are supported by multicultural health services in local health districts across NSW, libraries, community language schools and cultural and community groups.
