Our campaign history

The MHCS has expertise in developing communication strategies, campaigns, resources and products specifically targeted to CALD communities in NSW. We are able to organise health promotion, education and information services, audio and video production, the development of print resources, and distribution networks.

The Problem Gambling Awareness Campaign

The Problem Gambling Awareness Campaign is part of a three-year Early Intervention, Prevention Strategy (EIPECS) established by the NSW Government in 2009. Four other gambling awareness campaigns will be held in the Arabic, Greek, Italian and Vietnamese communities.
The Problem Gambling Awareness Campaigns are funded by the NSW Government and administered by Communities NSW.

Get Healthy Information & Coaching Service CALD Campaign

The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) is working with the NSW Health Department in the dissemination of information of a new service to five culturally and linguistically diverse communities in NSW.
The targeted communities are the Chinese, Italian, Filipino, Sri Lankan and Indian who have high levels of the English language and the Service is titled 'The Get Healthy Information and Coaching Service'. This is a free telephone service staffed by qualified health coaches aimed at supporting adults at risk of developing chronic diseases, in making lifestyle changes regarding:
  • Healthy eating
  • Physical activity
  • Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight

Macedonian Healthy and Tasty Recipe Competition 2010

The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) has been given the opportunity to once again work with the Australian Better Health Initiative (ABHI) to target communities which have a high incidence and prevalence of diabetes in order to support a national project titled "Ethnic Cook Off" for the purpose of assisting in the prevention of chronic diseases such as diabetes. This time ABHI has commissioned MHCS to target the Macedonian community in NSW.
The new competition is planned to encourage members of the Macedonian community to send in recipes that are culturally relevant using tips from the 'healthy foods' free information pack which can be sent out by contacting MHCS and partner organisation Macedonian Welfare Association Inc (MWA) on 02 42 752266.

2009 Campaigns

Can Healthy Food be Tasty? Take the Challenge!

The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS), a state-wide service funded by NSW Health to provide health and the Australian Better Health Initiative (ABHI) are holding a recipe competition to encourage people to cook easy to prepare, affordable, tasty and nutritious food with a particular emphasis on the use of fruit and vegetables.

2008 Campaigns

Families NSW in conjunction with Multicultural Communication Health Services are presenting a communication strategy targeting parents and carers of the Arabic, Chinese and Vietnamese Communities for the Love Talk Sing Read Play Campaign.

2007 Campaigns

NSW Health has joined forces with the Cancer Institute NSW and Horticulture Australia to implement the Go for 2&5® fruit and vegetable campaign in NSW.

2006 Campaigns

Television personality/Newsman, John Mangos, has officially launched a men's reproductive and sexual health resource : A user's guide - what every man needs to know. The resource produced by Andrology Australia, a Commonwealth funded non government organization committed to raise awareness of male reproductive health issues.
