In 2006, Cancer Institute NSW, Australia’s first government-funded cancer control agency, financed the NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) and Quitline NSW to develop strategies to increase access of smokers who speak a language other than English to smoking cessation services. The Multilingual Quitlines provided free, confidential and individually-tailored service telephone advice to assist smokers in the quitting process.
