MHCS FEATURED NEWS

Welcome to the Summer edition of Polyglot. The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) is pleased to feature the weekly COVID-19 Multicultural Media Conference hosted by the Ministry of Health, MHCS and Multicultural NSW.

For new in-language COVID-19 videos, social media assets, posters and factsheets from multicultural health services across the sector, visit the NSW Health page or the MHCS Publications page.

Additional COVID-19 translations are available at the Australian Department of Health’s resources page and SBS’ COVID-19 portal.

Submit Multilingual Health Resources

Easy online registration is available for linking or uploading your multilingual health resources to the MHCS website. More than 600 audio, video and print resources in over 60 languages are indexed on the MHCS webserver for simple access to translated health information from a range of health organisations.

Health workers can also share internal health resources and tools with other health professionals online. Register your health email address: your.name@health.nsw.gov.au on the MHCS website.

Once you’ve registered and logged in, visit the internal health staff tools and resources.

Translated COVID-19 Glossary of Immunisation and Vaccine Development

The Translated COVID-19 Glossary of Immunisation and Vaccine Development is now available for a free download in 30 languages.

This glossary can be used by community organisations, translators and interpreters, bilingual workers, and community leaders to better understand and communicate about vaccine development and implementation.

The development of the glossary was led by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and MHCS in partnership with a broad range of experts.

Updated Translation Appointment Tool

MHCS hosts the online Appointment Reminder Translation Tool.

This tool allows you to translate appointment details into your client's language. Immediate translations are now available in 45 languages with additional languages to come in the near future.

Type in the details of the appointment in the online form. The translated appointment is automatically created in a pdf document which you can either print and give to your client or directly email to them. In addition, clients will receive an automatic translated text message with their appointment detail

NEWS AND RESOURCES - Health Translations

Multilingual Bowel Screening Videos

Bowel Screening Saves Lives videos are available in English, Arabic, Assyrian, Cantonese, Mandarin and Vietnamese. The videos have been developed in partnership with Cancer Institute NSW, MHCS, South Western Sydney Local Health District Multicultural Health Services BCE Program, SWSLHD Health Promotion Service and other partner services.

Mindfulness Audio Tracks

Practicing mindfulness can help reduce stress and anxiety. Mindfulness audio created by SESLHD as part of the Mindfulness Intervention in CALD communities program are available in Arabic, Bangla, English, Mandarin and Nepali.

Cervical Cancer Screening Flipchart Manual

The cervical screening flipchart and facilitator manual is a tool to assist health workers to provide information on cervical cancer and cervical screening to women from different cultural backgrounds. The manual is available in Arabic, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, English, Korean, Thai, and Vietnamese.

Charter of Healthcare Rights

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care has developed a range of audio-visual resources to support people to understand and use the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights (the Charter). Resources include Auslan, Braille, Easy English, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese simplified, Chinese, Dari, Farsi, Greek, Hindi, Karen, Korean, Macedonian, Nepali, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Thai, and Vietnamese.
