The Cook Book

cookbook_ThumbMulticultural communities are being encouraged to get healthy with the launch of a new multilingual cookbook that features a wide range of sumptuous, ethnic recipes.

The aim of the cookbook is to encourage members of multicultural communities to eat healthy by increasing their daily serves of fruit and vegetables. The free cookbook will be distributed to multicultural communities and will also be available online.

Following the success of the Ethnic Cook Off in 2009, the NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) have featured ethnic recipes in the cookbook from the winning and top competition finalists. Entrants were encouraged to submit recipes relevant to their culture using healthy food tips.

The ethnic recipe competitions were part of the Australian Better Health Initiatives (ABHI) Measure up campaign, a national program aimed to reduce risk factors of chronic diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer.

The MHCS team also presented an introduction to the Get Healthy Information and Coaching Service at the launch. Get Healthy is a free, personal and confidential service that offers participants to access their own qualified health coach who will help them set healthy lifestyle goals and support them by maintaining motivation to achieve results.
