Hepatitis B Chinese Resources
Project background
In South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD), nearly 45% of people living with chronic hepatitis B are from Chinese backgrounds in 2020[1]. This reflects higher rates of hepatitis B in China and is influenced by limited awareness, low vaccination and testing uptake, stigma, and barriers to healthcare access.
[1] National Viral Hepatitis Mapping Project. Estimates of hepatitis B prevalence, treatment, and care in NSW by Local Health District, Summary Report 2020. ASHM; 2022.
To address these needs, the SESLHD Sexual Health & Blood Borne Viruses (SHBBV) Projects Team led a co-designed health campaign in partnership with the Chinese community, community organisations, and government health services.
Project aims
Raising awareness about hepatitis B transmission, prevention, treatment and care, and helping reduce stigma in Chinese communities.
